- Arkansas: On Sept. 16, Arkansas added 140 probable deaths, not all of which dated to Sept. 16.
- Massachusetts: On June 1, Massachusetts began to report probable cases and probable deaths, causing totals to appear to increase sharply.
- Georgia: On Nov. 3, Georgia started reporting probable deaths in their COVID-19 Daily Status report. On Nov. 4, the COVID Tracking Project added the probable deaths from Nov. 3 and 4, causing the daily rise in deaths on the 3rd to appear as 480. This large increase includes the data dump of 450 probable deaths, many of which are not from the previous 24 hours.
- Missouri: On Oct. 10, Missouri announced that a database error had resulted in an “incorrect inflation” of cases in its daily report. When The COVID Tracking Project expects to update totals when the state provides a correction.
- North Carolina: On Sept. 25, North Carolina started reporting probable cases which caused the total cases to increase by 4,563.
- Texas: On July 27, Texas added 675 additional deaths through death certificate reviews. Only 44 deaths were truly "new" deaths attributed to that date. On Sept. 22, Texas reported a backlog of over 13,000 cases.
- Wisconsin: On Oct. 19, Wisconsin reported three days worth of data because of site maintenance over the weekend.
The United States reported a daily total of more than 100,000 coronavirus cases for the first time on Nov. 4, 2020. The benchmark was crossed as the nation entered a third wave of the pandemic on the cusp of the 2020 flu season.
