This map shows which bike lanes were constructed in 2020 and 2021 as well as which lanes are protected from traffic. It represents the best, most recent estimate of bike lanes in this area by the Metropolitan Area Planning Council.

A closer look at some of the new lanes

In 2020, Boston and surrounding cities and towns within the 128 beltway added around 25 miles of bike lanes. In 2021, they added about 10 miles. Click the arrows above for a look at some of the new projects.

Protected lanes indicate lanes that include a flex-post barrier, are between street-side parking and the sidewalk, or are on the sidewalk level. Unprotected lanes offer no physical barrier between the bike lane and traffic. Map does not include shared use paths.
