Nov. 9, 1965. I looked out my front window and saw, in the distance, the bright neon “Simple Simon met a pieman” sign at the Howard Johnson’s on Wollaston Beach. The sign flickered twice, then went out. All of Quincy Shore Drive was dark. The great Eastern blackout had begun.
