How New England athletes fared in the Paris Olympics
From Northampton’s Gabby Thomas to viral sensation Stephen Nedoroscik, it was a successful Games for the region.
As the Paris Olympics have come and gone, we kept an eye on the local representation at the 2024 Games.
There was plenty of New England interest in France, and the region had an impressive trip to the Olympics. Born-and-bred Bay Staters, local college grads, and Celtics champions came home with hardware.
From triple gold medalists (Gabby Thomas) to history makers (Lauren Scruggs) to viral sensations (Stephen Nedoroscik and Ilona Maher), here’s how the area’s best fared at an unforgettable Games.

Jayson Tatum
US
Age: 26 Height: 6'8"
Hometown: St. Louis, Mo.
New England tie: Plays for the Celtics
Olympic appearances: 2020
It was a strange trip to Paris for Tatum, who looked to complete a special summer — an NBA title, a record-breaking contract, the cover of his favorite video game — with Olympic gold. He got that gold in the end, but perhaps not in the way he wanted as he struggled to carve out a role in Steve Kerr’s rotation. Tatum played just 71 minutes across six games, two of which he didn’t appear in. Read more Team USA bio
